The game started with Melanie inviting the party to meet with her. She immediately accused the party of murdering Finnegan Cormac, despite directly telling them not to. The party had no idea this happened and argued if they did it, there wouldn't be a corpse left. The party put together that the Caller in Darkness did it. They also reasoned that whoever was behind all of this was trying to create a philosopher's stone using the Caller in some way.

The party left to examine the body. Cairja determined that Finnegan was attacked and the lights were all off. The party figured out that the lights had never been turned on ever, which was odd since they were meant to serve as protection against monsters like the Caller in Darkness.

The party set off towards an abandoned mine in order to gain some answers from an abandoned mine said to contain a cave that was legendarily an epicenter of evil just south of Aurolis. Inside the party found a few dead ends through a minecart track and some traps covered by illusions.
