Legend of the Black Reef VI (High Seas, Jaern)

The party makes their way to the center of the Reef and finds an unfamiliar Onivero squadron there as well, eyes set on the Heart of the Sea. When their leader makes their way to it, Steel rushes them. They grab a nearby wandering abyssling and merge with it forcibly, grotesquely transforming into a giant abyssling hybrid creature. The rest of the squadron joins to merge with it. The party battles the creature down and manages to get their hands on the Heart, which inflicts a brief vision on Steel. He sees a vision of the past, with two strange figures. One is Dolores' son. He seems worried about being moved from his current location.

When the party defeats the hybrid monster, it dissolves into goo and dies. The party digs up Dolores' son's body, and the Onivero teleport them to a safehouse in Elegian. Uriel communicates more with the boy, and finds out that he doesn't know much about the situation and was just doing what he had to to prevent the abysslings from obtaining the Heart. The Onivero, assumedly Jaern, seems to only be partway there. Dolores' son accepts that his duty has ended, and lets the party perform the right rituals to help him pass on. His body is returned to Dolores, and she pays them their promised reward.
